THE IMPORTANCE OF CRUDE OIL AVAILABILITY
The growth of the demand for edible oils puts pressure on the supply of crude oils. In the past 3 years we have substantially increased our sourcing activities, resulting in a larger pool of suppliers.
The USDA forecast that 2019-’20 world vegetable oil production will in all probability rise by more than 3 percent from the year before to a record level of just short of 204 million metric tons. Palm, soybean, rapeseed and sunflower oil make up nearly 87%.
Soybean oil will have the biggest growth at 5 percent. This trend is the beneficiary of the increased availability of feedstock from the large 2018 harvests of soybeans in Brazil and the U.S. and continued international demand for processed soybean products.
Production of sunflower oil will probably rise 4 percent, as Ukrainian sunflower production is up around 6 percent.
